prominent Portuguese artists of the seventeenth century. As Obidos was the property of the
Queens of Portugal, it has always enjoyed special protection from the royal court, at one time
hosting a school of arts and sciences. This is a very special village and strolling the streets
makes it easy to see why Obidos was a gift among royals and a source of inspiration for so many
               artists through the centuries.

From Obidos, continue just over 1 hr to your accommodations in Lisbon. Balance of the day at
               leisure.

Proposed Accommodations for 3 nights: Lapa Palace an elegant five-star property
(Lisbon’s best) situated in the city’s diplomatic quarter. Enjoy the river views and
               tranquil garden.

Day 5 – Monday, October 16: Lisbon City Tour Including Jewish Heritage. Your private
driver will meet you at hotel reception this
morning to begin a full day of touring
Lisbon. You’ll begin with a visit to Shaare
Tikva (Gates of Hope), an Israeli settlement
on Lisbon’s West Bank and home to Lisbon
               Synagogue. Next, tour Belem, a
picturesque district that is the location of
many of Lisbon’s most notable monuments
and attractions, including Belem Tower, a
fortified tower constructed in 1515. Also in the Belem district is Jeronimos Monastery, a former
monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome, which is one of the most prominent examples of
Manueline-style Late Gothic architecture in Portugal. A private visit to the monastery is
included this morning. Enjoy lunch of fresh fish at a local restaurant facing the Tagus River
(lunch not included) before touring continues. This afternoon, your guide will lead you on a
walking tour of the Alfama quarter. Located southeast of the castle, the Alfama was the first
new quarter to be built by Christians at the end of the twelfth century. Charming nooks and
crannies and narrow streets give the area a labyrinth-like feel. Many Jews settled in the Alfama
quarter during the fifteenth century after being expelled by the Catholic kings of Castile. Finally,
enjoy a tour of St. George Castle, Lisbon’s Moorish castle overlooking the historic city center.

The balance of the day is yours at leisure. We suggest dinner with a Fado performance at a local
Fado house. Fado is Lisbon’s most traditional form of music, a mournful style of song so
intrinsic to Portuguese culture that the art is designated as a UNESCO World’s Intangible
               Cultural Heritage.
