This afternoon, your touring will continue through Porto’s earliest-known Jewish quarter.
Constructed inside the old city wall along what is now Rua de Santa Ana, near Rua Escura and
Largo do Colegio, it is still possible to appreciate the medieval layout of these streets even today.
The Jewish quarter is situated near Porto cathedral, a masterpiece of Roman-Gothic architecture.
Your Porto tour will continue with a walk through historic Ribeira Square and a visit to the
incredible Palacio da Bolsa, or Stock Exchange Palace. Built in the nineteenth century in
Neoclassical style, the Porto Stock Exchange is truly a grand building and is designated as a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Time permitting, your guide can also show you the historic
Livraria Lello, a massive library and bookshop, which opened in1906.
Balance of the day at leisure following your tour.

Day 4 – Sunday, October 15: On to Lisbon via Tomar and Obidos. Depart Porto with your
private driver this morning to begin the 3-hr
journey to Lisbon. En route, you’ll make a stop
in Tomar, a charming and historically outstanding
village located in the center of Portugal. Tomar is
dominated by a twelfth-century Templar castle
containing one of the country’s most impressive
monuments, the Covent of Christ, and is
designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You’ll enjoy a private visit to the Templar Castle,
as well as a visit to the Abraham-Zacuto
Portugese-Jewish Museum. Housed in the oldest
synagogue in Portugal, the museum displays a variety of interesting artifacts from Tomar and
around the world.
Your next stop en route to Lisbon will be Obidos, a well-preserved, romantic medieval village so
beloved by Portuguese royalty that kings would present the village to their spouses as a wedding
gift. King Dinis was the first to present the village to his wife, Queen Isabel, in 1282. The
golden towers, crenellated battlements and ramparts rise from the rolling countryside in dramatic
fashion and present a stark contrast to the whitewashed buildings located within the walls. A
walk along the ramparts provides a very interesting perspective of the village and the
surrounding countryside. You’ll have time for lunch on your own in Obidos before enjoying a
tour inside the old town walls. The narrow streets beneath the foot of the castle retain their
sixteenth-century medieval atmosphere. You’ll visit the small Jewish quarter located in the
center of town, where traders, artists and scientists practiced their trades. The lovely nearby
Renaissance church of Santa Maria houses paintings of Josefa d’Obidos, one of the most
