Justa railway station this morning in

service 2 hrs 45 min to the vibrant capital
city of Madrid. Upon arrival to Madrid
Atocha railway station, private transfer 12
min to your accommodations. We’ll plan

To help make the most of your time in Madrid, we’ve arranged a private, guided insider’s
walking tour for this afternoon, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The second part of the tour, beginning at
8:00 p.m., will include visits to some of Madrid’s finest tapas establishments. You’ll start things
with your guide with a walk through the historic center of Madrid with particular focus on the
literary neighborhood of Las Huertas, the Plaza Santa Ana to see where the bull fighters used to
stay and, finally, Plaza Mayor and the medieval Austrias area of Madrid. Along the way you
will visit people and places that provide great insight into the way of life for Madrileños.
Specifically, you will visit a flamenco guitar workshop to see how the guitars are made, a
flamenco shoe shop and the cape shop which has served customers from Picasso to Carolina
Herrera to name just two! You will visit the Puerta del Sol to see where the Madrileños like to
celebrate New Year’s Eve and also the busiest pastry shop in town, La Mallorquina. How about a
tasting? Pass through the Plaza Mayor, a symmetrical, arcaded square built during the Habsburg
period, and down the steps to Cuchilleros Street, stopping to visit the world’s oldest restaurant,
where Zac Efron and Ernest Hemingway have had dinner (though not at the same time!). After a
glimpse at their ovens dating to 1725, continue with your guide to visit a leather artisan’s
workshop and see where local nuns sell cookies. You’ll then proceed to Plaza de la Villa and the
San Miguel Market where you will begin your visits to some of the city’s finest tapas spots. Your
guide will escort you to his or her favorite tapas bars for you to try the local specialties and learn
the protocols of tapas hopping in Madrid, including what to order and how to order!
Time permitting, make a stop at San Ginés, a landmark chocolateria established in 1894, for
chocolate and churros! Madrid can go quite late, but expect your tour to conclude at 10:00 p.m.
The cost of tapas and drinks is based on consumption and not included in your program. Enjoy
comparing the difference between the tapas scenes in Seville and Madrid.
