Day 5: Epicurean Barcelona. Today, we’ve arranged a leisurely Epicurean Walking Tour of the
old quarters, which will be an excellent introduction to this bustling city through its dynamic
food and wine scene. Your guide will be Marta, an energetic Barcelona native who is as vibrant
as the city itself, or one of her colleagues. First, you will visit one of the city’s food markets such
as the market of Santa Caterina, which is located near the city’s Gothic cathedral on the former
site of a convent of the same name. If you like, sit down for a cup of coffee to watch the goings-
on of the market. Other stops could include Vila Viniteca, a great wine shop in El Born, where
you might enjoy Tempranillo tastings paired with Jamon Iberico (Spanish Ham), Formatgeria de
la Seu, which specializes in Catalan cheeses, Bubo, a Pastelería de Diseño (designer pastry shop)
and Torradors Gispert, an atmospheric, 160-year-old shop that has been roasting nuts in the same
th
oven since opening in the mid-19 century. Other
gourmet specialties sold here include olives, saffron,
marmalade, chocolate, oils, salt and all sorts of dried
nuts and fruits. Tastings are included at all stops!
Additionally, your guide will be sure to point to La
Vinya del Senyor, our favorite wine bar and a great
place for people watching day and night. Be sure to stop here at least once while in Barcelona (if
you are like us, you will stop more than once). As this tour can include Catalan favorites such as
chocolate, cakes, Cava or even a curated tapas lunch (extra fee applies), we will tailor this tour
according to your preferences. Balance of the day at leisure.
