Day 7: Leisure by Day, Tapas by Night. Enjoy a day at leisure in beautiful Seville. You
might consider a visit to some of the following:
• Plaza de Espana, which is located in Parque de Maria Luisa and was built for the 1929
Ibero-American Exposition. Architecturally speaking, this is one of the grandest squares
in all of Spain.
• Triana district, a former working-class district which still is home to a number of
ceramics workshops. There is also a great food market in Triana, located just across the
river and built on top of old castle ruins.
• Museo del Baile Flamenco. The brainchild
of Sevillana flamenco dancer Cristina
Hoyos, this museum spread over three
floors of an 18th-century palace showcases
the mysterious art with sketches, paintings
and photos of erstwhile (and contemporary)
flamenco greats, plus a collection of
dresses and shawls.
• Palace of the Countess of Lebrija, widely considered to be one of Seville’s finest
residences. Located along the busy central street, Calle Cuna, the palace is home to an
astounding collection of Roman mosaics.
• Seville is home to lovely food markets, including Mercado de la Encarnacion, located
underneath the Metropol Parasol; Mercado de la Calle Feria, one of Seville’s oldest,
specializing in fresh fish and baked goods; Mercado de Puerta de la Carne, which is
arguably less touristy than other markets; and Mercado del Arenal, centrally located and
offering a nice mix of gourmet stands and family-run counters. You might start the day
with a visit to some of the markets. It’s a nice walk from Alfonso XIII to the
Encarnacion Market.
• You could even consider a river cruise along the Guadalquivir. Cruises of 1 or 2 hrs are
available.
• Visit the bullfighting museum at Plaza de Toros, the city’s bullring.
