Day 2: Georgian Bath. We’ll arrange a private transfer 20-min into Bath this morning, where
you will meet Maeve or one of her colleagues,
for a leisurely, 2-hr walking tour of the town,
which has been welcoming visitors for centuries.
In Roman times, Bath was known as Aquae
Sulis and was founded by Roman legions
looking to ease arthritis in the curative mineral
springs. Yes, it was a spa town even back then!
The town became quite fashionable following a
visit to the springs by Queen Anne in 1702 and
grew rapidly, with most of the town being built
during that century. Bath did not grow
significantly after the eighteenth century and
remains the most harmonious town in England from an architectural standpoint.

During your tour, you will see some of the most noteworthy Georgian structures and streetscapes
anywhere, including Queen Square, The Circus, the stunning Royal Crescent, the Assembly
Rooms (which played host to dances, recitals and tea parties), the Octagon and Margaret Chapel.
Your expert guide will share information about this historic town including Jane Austen’s Bath.
The author lived in Bath in the early nineteenth century and set two of her published works there.

Your private tour will conclude with some
background on the Roman baths, which were
established in 75 A.D. and rediscovered in the
nineteenth century, along with the site of the
temple of Sulis Minerva. As guides aren’t allowed
to lead clients through the baths, we will include
tickets for a self-guided visit. You might also wish
to visit the Pump Room, where refreshments are
served overlooking the baths. You can even drink
the not-so-tasty mineral water from the hot springs
as visitors have done for centuries for the purported health benefits.

Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. You might consider a visit to the Fashion Museum,
one of the leading fashion museums in Europe. It houses dresses and other items from the
