The comprehensive Family Program
engages and supports families by
providing intensive parent education,
case management, referrals, and an array
of other support services including one-
on-one financial coaching, therapeutic services, counseling, access to the
J&J Boutique (food and clothing pantry) and Family Resource Room/
computer lab, emergency assistance funds, and the Annual UM Health
Fair. The Family Program also assists with resume writing, job searches,
goal setting, and family budgeting. Through this program, families gain the
skills, knowledge, and resources they need in order to increase self-
sufficiency and foster their child's healthy growth and development.
2020 Accomplishments
- Jack & Jill Center’s 13th Annual UM Health Fair was held on January 11,
2020. In partnership with the UM Miller School of Medicine's DOCS
program and the Forum on Women's Health, 356 medically under-served
individuals received essential health services free of charge, regardless of
insurance and immigration status. Feeding South Florida also distributed
over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce at th e event.
- In response to COVID-19, Jack & Jill Center partnered with Feeding
South Florida to meet the immediate needs of families and the
community by hosting mass grocery distributions and “Summer Br eak
Spots” which provided breakfast and lunch to children under 18 facing
food insecurity due to school closures. In total, Jack & Jill Center
distributed groceries to 10,000 families and 3,500 meals to children.
- Due to COVID-19, Case Management and Family Assessments
transitioned to virtual meetings. In total, Jack & Jill Center provided
2,624 hours of case management. Parent and community education also
transitioned to virtual coursework. Course series offerings included:
“Nurturing Parenting”; “How to Help Your Child Be Successful in Life,”
featuring Be Strong and Consolidated Counseling Solutions; “First Time
Home Buyer,” featuring Urban League, Consolidated Credit, and
Counseling Community Action Agency; “Financial Literacy &
Couponing”; and “Microsoft Excel Step-by-Step,” presented by Broward
College through The Broward Up Initiative.
- 183 families received items from the J&J Bo utique. To reduce the risk
of COVID-19 exposure, Family Team Members provided curbside pickup
to families who requested items and made deliveries to households as
needed. Additionally, more than $7,750 in gift cards were distributed to
in-need families to purchase food, gas, and other essential items.
- 23 families were provided emergency financial assistance totaling
$23,900 for essential needs including rent, utilities, and food through
Jack & Jill Center’s Emergency Assistance Fund and collaborations with
community agencies including Junior Welfare Society, Miami Herald
Wishbook Foundation, Children’s Aid Club, Family Success Center,
United Way’s COVID-19 Grant, and private donors.
