Capital Campaign Update
Jack & Jill Children's Center is uniquely positioned to provide a high quality elementary school
opportunity for our current students and others in the community. Expanding the academic
program through fifth grade would increase the depth and duration of Jack & Jill’s impact,
accommodating an additional 220 children and their families.
Construction for this brand new, state-of-the-art elementary school, The Madelaine Halmos
Academy, is well underway. The groundbreaking ceremony for The Madelaine Halmos Academy
took place in late August, with over 200 guests in attendance.
The new school building will be completed in December 2020. Herman Construction Services,
Inc. is working closely with Zyscovich Architects and Flynn Engineering who have done a terrific
job with all of the design and preliminary work.
Meanwhile, the elementary program expanded this year to offer a third grade class and an
additional kindergarten class. Rachel Scott, with her vast knowledge of elementary education
and years of experience, joined Jack & Jill’s leadership as Head of School at The Madelaine
Halmos Academy. The school is currently housed at the Salvation Army Community Center Fort
Lauderdale and the Salvation Army has been a tremendous partner in this period of growth and
transition. This fall we will open our inaugural fourth grade class.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed and made this expanded vision possible. To date,
we have raised $8 million of our $11 million goal. Keith Arnold and Tom McManus are leading
the charge as Co-Chairs of the Capital Campaign Committee. Madelaine and Steve Halmos are
Honorary Chairs, and donated the lead gift for the campaign.
