This new style board at Stakis were always confident that
they could negotiate a three year extension to the bank
standstill agreement. But, this would have placed
management in the onerous position of not being able to
spend much on capital expenditure, having to spend most
of their time making and retaining profits in order to
correct their financial ratios in order to restore them to
health. It would have been a good achievement but it
would have been hell trying to keep a management team
together. The £50 millions joint venture and then sale of
Ashbourne Nursing Homes was the best option.
