Indo Argentina Email Exchange 2016
The students of grade VI exchanged emails with the students of the same grade of Escuela
Primaria 74, Argentina. It was interesting to observe that even though Bangalore and
Argentina are miles away from one another yet the interests of the children of the same age
group are so similar. Be it their interests in music, sports, pets, food, etc. It was amazing to
know that their likes and dislikes bore a strong similarity. Here at DPS Bangalore North we
are looking forward to another exchange programme with them in the near future too.
Email from teacher incharge from Argentina
My school name is Primary School Mercedes Tomasa San Martin de Balcarce (she was
José de San Martin´s daughter, our main national hero, so called The Nation´s Father or
America Liberator, because he helped Argentina, Chile and Peru to get independence from
Spain). In fact, in the province of Buenos Aires, schools are better known for a number, so
this is called Primary School No, 74 (District of Quilmes). It is located in Ezpeleta, Quil-
mes, in the province of Buenos Aires. It is an average school, with 9 sections in the morning
shift and nine in the afternoon shift, from first to sixth year. Students here go to school only
in one shift, four hours, from Monday to Friday.
Students here study English as a foreign language, two hours a week, from fourth to sixth
year, and then in secondary school. Apart from playing video games (that more and more
are being translated into Spanish) students from public schools do not have much contact
with English language. It is not very common for public schools to have exchange with stu-
dents from other countries so the possibility to use the language for communication in a real
context is very remote. That is why the exchange among my students and yours was a
unique experience for my children. For the very first time they had to decode a text, not on-
ly because it was a task that the teacher had proposed but because they wanted to learn
about the students in a very far country, know about their life, family, likes and dislikes,
their similarities and differences. Perhaps if we could repeat this experience we could add
some exchange about characteristics of our cities and countries, famous people from our cul-
tures, etc.
We are very grateful for this exchange although we did some mistakes due to our inexperi-
ence. It would be great if we can do it again.
Love and Regards
