“The day started with a gloomy
weather...
Being our first family day, some of us where nervous as not
sure how the day will pin out. Especially because the weath-
er was not on our side, but knowing that God was on our
side, we then sorted the logistics of setting–up the ALTAR
and the service began.
The service was beautiful and we felt the presence of the
Lord. Georgina was the preacher for the day and the Dean
was the president of the mass. 70+ members of the Cathe-
dral and friends of the Cathedral attended.
After the service we broke bread together, such a beautiful
thing to witness — the sharing that the congregation illustrat-
ed. We became one. There was singing and dancing from
the congregation. The church elders really had the best time

day it was! I did not even think that we would have a big crowd turn-out,
but guess what, the people of the Cathedral came through. Our service At the end it was a well spent day, and a lesson on how we

church, which was so true as most of us left with a bigger family than be-
fore we arrived. True fellowship was practiced throughout the day.
After the service, we had a great time interacting with everyone, young
and old. Volleyball, touch and go football were played, all as a part of in-
teraction. What was also awesome about the event, was the lesson of
sharing, different foods passed through each and everyone of us, with
most choosing the option of a braai. It was a great African experience for
everyone, and what would a gathering be without music and dance? The
"mamas" showed the young ones what vosho is. Umoya bewuvuma (It was
nice indeed)!
Overall, this was a great initiative and I hope that it grows bigger in the
coming years.”- Ayanda Kgomosotho.
“Indeed life happened!!!
Nonetheless, the family day was a great success on its inception year. I call
the service on the day "The church without walls' as it gave us the opportuni-
ty to worship God unrestricted, in touch with Mother nature and with the
embrace of Gods space and Gods people. It was a joy indeed as the tranquil-
lity of the birds cries accompanied our joyful singing. With so many years in FAMILY DAY
the Cathedral, I would say that was the first of its kind.
Not forgetting the fellowship after the service. It gave an opportune time for
congregants to know and understand each other better on a lighter note.
Talent, skills and energy were show cased as the young and old engaged in
sporting activities like netball, soccer, touch rugby and a bit of scrabble. A
community that prays together, shares together. As it was time for the eats,
people were sharing generously with love as everyone indulged in braai vleis
and drinks. It was indeed a great day that the Cathedral should make an
annual event as it gives people an opportunity to engage in various as-
pects.” - Bakhangele Masabalala.
