continued production in occupied factories without bosses. The
Kazova workers held an event the evening before and after months
they engaged in production for the first time.
The sound of machines in operation for the first time in
months was relayed by microphone to workers outside, who said,
“We are very excited. We have not heard the sound of those ma-
chines for months. Now nobody can exploit our labour.”
Grup Yorum members took part in the event and supported
the workers with songs and folk melodies.
Production inside, a halay outside
While production was going on inside, the social event con-
tinued outside and the workers outside danced a halay with people
who had come to express their support. One of these was Turkan
Albayrak, who had become a symbol in her own right after resist-
ing from a tent on her own after being fired from Pasabahce state
hospital, winning after a long struggle. Meanwhile it was an-
nounced that the workers inside the factory had finished produc-
ing their first pieces of fabric.
Then the Kazova workers announced that they would start
producing today at full capacity. The workers told our newspaper
that they would be working without bosses, “We are doing this for
the first time in Turkey. The boss fled, we repaired the machinery
and we are producing. There may be attacks. We don’t think the
state is going to leave us alone. Today or tomorrow they might cut
the electricity. We expect all working people to give us support.”
