lish a cooperative, we will produce and earn for ourselves.”
And the first steps towards the cooperative have been taken.
This is not a small step, but an ordinary one. To conduct their
own affairs and gradually to grow. Workers who are not respected
as human beings, human beings considered alone and powerless
in the face of justice and the power of the bosses, after the bosses
dismantled equipment in their factories the Kazova workers re-
paired the machines and are preparing for winter by making
sweaters for themselves.
Where is the injustice and illegality in this story? Why is every-
one working? Why are there bosses? Who benefits from fear? If we
turn to an example from Latin America, Celia Martinez, one of
the textile workers at Brukman’s evaluated the repression they
were exposed to after a factory occupation in these words: “They
are afraid of us, because if we can run a factory, we have shown
that we could run the country. That is why this government is in-
clined to suppress us.”
Repress them if you wish but they are carrying on their work.
Kazova workers are now doing all they can to be up to the de-
mands of the work. Now it is the turn of all of us. They sell their
sweaters for 30 TL, without making a profit for what they produce.
We do not know if you are surprised but life is starting there again.
Burak Oz, our journalist for our Work Life page, came to get
30 sweaters in total for our newspaper and everyone chose one for
himself. Later the cold weather will come and in solidarity every-
one can this is “our” sweater.
The Birgun team Is also dressed by Kazova!
