 Visually check damaged bus bars, conductors and insulators before re-energizing main electrical
distribution systems. In case of doubt, contact electrician. Do not touch or move exposed bare wires and
               avoid down power lines.
 Turn off water supply, except for fire sprinkler system, if found leaking.

            IF THE STORE HAS POWER

If your store did not lose power, or if power has been restored, the following actions should be taken:
 Begin the cleanup process. It is important to dry water-damaged areas within 48 hours to prevent mold
growth. Clean and dry every area of the store using the following procedures:

                  Prior to cleanup, ensure you have adequate personal protective equipment for your Team Members;
                   e.g., goggles and rubber gloves.
 Clean all interior walls with any disinfectant cleaner or a concentration of one-ounce bleach per one
gallon of water. Wipe down and completely dry all surfaces.
 Wipe down and dry all decor on the walls as well as light fixtures and ceiling fans.
 Replace all air filters and wipe down and dry the air vents.
 Dry all floors and under all equipment.
 Clean all floors with preapproved floor cleaner. This will help sanitize the floors and reduce odor.
 Clean and sanitize all glassware, utensils, equipment, etc., that was near the flooding or debris.
 Request pest control to come out ASAP to spray since bugs will now be “looking for shelter.”
 Pour any excess sanitizer down the drains to help sanitize them as well.
 Important for insurance purposes – document all losses and extra expenses incurred for cleanup.

 Call your dishwasher service company to service dish machines, work on damaged septic tanks,
cesspools, pits and leaching systems as soon as possible. Damaged sewage systems are serious health
               hazards.

            MANAGER ACTIONS

 Photograph or make a video recording of the damage.
 Track all labor used to prepare the store to reopen for insurance claims.
 Recall key Team Members necessary for restarting operation.

 Listen to a battery-operated radio or television for the latest emergency information. Monitor curfews,
boil water orders, bans on alcohol sales and updates on deliveries.
 Refrain from using telephones, except for emergency assistance, in order to keep the lines open.
 Stay at the location until the authorities say it is safe to leave the area.

AFTER THE STORM – TECHNICAL PROCESSES

 Turn on the main breakers at 5 minute intervals.

 Note any failed emergency equipment or lighting.
 Replace all flashlights in designated areas.
 Adjust the time on the A/C thermostats.

                                                                                                                84
