Merrimack Valley A Cappella (continued)

Three of our members missed in-person competition due to schedule conflicts, but we took the “Flat Baris”
along wherever we went in Springfield.

Also related to contest – but in April at Greater NY/NJ Region 15’s competition – our own Becky King’s
quartet, Illuminate, finished in first place for the second year in a row! We are so proud of them.

Not surprisingly, the months before contest were very busy, but there was definitely a lot of fun along the
way. New member Lilah El-Fakih hosted a weekend tag party for MVA as well as other singer friends. We
enjoyed meeting three of Lilah’s friends who are all Sweet Adelines in Region 1: Eileen (Heart of the
Valley) is college friend, and Becca (Farmington Valley) and Katherine (Coastline) were both part of her
SAI chorus when they lived in New Orleans.

During our March retreat with Kim Wonders, we announced the annual “In Her Footsteps” award to the
member who demonstrates the dedication and attributes of one of our beloved founding members, Marge
Bennet. Linda Green, our membership coordinator extraordinaire, was this year’s recipient.
