BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:
Our school will NOT have birthday parties for students. Parents may bring a snack to be shared with the class
during the last 15 minutes of the school day or during snack time/lunch. NO BALLOONS, GIFTS, FLOWERS, etc.
Birthday party invitations for parties outside the school may be given out as students exit the building for the day,
as long as every child in the class gets an invitation. Otherwise, they should not be given out. Our school is not
responsible for arranging social events for students outside the school environment, so phone
numbers/addresses/email addresses will not be given out to anyone, as this is confidential information. All foods
served on this campus to students must be store purchased and not homemade so that everything
served to students comes from a state-inspected kitchen and all ingredients can be monitored for
children with food allergies.
BOOK BAGS
For the safety of our students, rolling book bags are discouraged as they are a tripping hazard.
BUS RIDERS
STUDENT CONDUCT ON SCHOOL BUSES AND CONVEYANCES
In the vicinity of school buses and on school buses, students will conduct themselves in a manner that does not
endanger, and does not contribute to the endangerment of, themselves or other students. The District’s Student
Code of Conduct, Policy JIC, and Administrative Rule JIC-R provisions, as well as the expected conduct set
forth in this Policy and Administrative Rule, are applicable to all students riding on school buses.
Bus Drivers will report the names of students whose conduct interferes with safe driving or who act disruptively
to the appropriate School Administrator and/or Transportation Supervisor. In all cases where the misconduct is
reported to the Transportation Supervisor, he/she will ensure that the school administration has been notified of
the incident.
The Board supports the use of video cameras on school buses used for transportation to and from school, as
well as for field trips, curricular and extracurricular events. Accordingly, the District may use video cameras to
monitor student behavior and may use video tapes as evidence in a student disciplinary proceeding. Only those
persons with a legitimate educational purpose may view the videotapes subject to applicable federal and state
laws and regulations.
The Board authorizes District and school administrators to suspend or expel students from riding a school bus or
to impose any other penalties provided for in the Student Code of Conduct for misconduct on the school bus or
for violating instructions of the Bus Driver.
ALL DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS LISTED IN THIS CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT ARE APPLICABLE TO
MISCONDUCT ON THE SCHOOL BUS. IN ADDITION, THE PRIVILEGE OF RIDING A SCHOOL BUS MAY
BE WITHHELD DUE TO STUDENT MISBEHAVIOR ON SCHOOL BUSES.
Bus Discipline is a part of the total school discipline process. Misbehavior on or about school buses or
at school bus stops will not be tolerated. For reporting purposes, as well as disciplinary purposes,
misbehavior on or about school buses or at school bus stops will be divided into two main categories: MINOR
INFRACTIONS or MAJOR INFRACTIONS. A MINOR INFRACTION may become a MAJOR INFRACTION
depending on the severity of the case. Some MAJOR INFRACTIONS may result in expulsion from school.
These include bringing weapons, look-alike weapons, drugs, or drug paraphernalia on the school bus, any acts
of vandalism to the school bus, physical abuse to the bus driver on the bus and other acts of similar severity. A
reasonable effort will be made to notify the parent or guardian of all minor and major infractions as they are
committed.
