MAJOR INFRACTIONS
          A MAJOR INFRACTION shall be any misbehavior committed by a student on or about the school bus, or the bus stop
          which endangers the safety and well being of any student(s) and which interferes with the safe operation of the bus
          by the bus driver. These MAJOR INFRACTIONS include:


             1.  Direct disobedience to the instructions of the bus driver
             2.  Physical or verbal abuse of the bus driver
             3.  Throwing objects on the school bus or out the window
             4.  Possession of weapons or other dangerous objects on the school bus
             5.  Possession of tobacco or tobacco products, etc. on the bus
             6.  Serious arguments on the bus or bus stop between students (standing face to face, arguing and shoving, but
                 no licks passed)
             7.  Making a direct threat against the bus driver
             8.  Physically interfering with the school bus driver while he/she is operating the school bus
             9.  Smoking on the bus
            10.  Excessive horseplay on the bus, continuing after being warned by the driver
            11.  Fighting on the bus with another student(s)
            12.  Physically abusing or molesting another student on the bus or bus stop
            13.  Possession of fireworks or other dangerous materials on the bus
            14.  Physically or verbally picking at much smaller students on the bus
            15.  Opening the bus emergency door
            16.  Indecent exposure to students on or about the bus or to others outside the bus or at the bus stop
            17.  Act of vandalism on the school bus totaling $25 or more
            18.  Extremely excessive noise on the bus (singing, hand clapping, yelling, or stomping of feet)
            19.  Fighting at the bus stop, whether the bus is in sight or not
            20.  Any other infraction not mentioned above that meets the definition of a MAJOR INFRACTION


                                CONSEQUENCES OF MAJOR INFRACTIONS INCLUDE:
          st
         1 Offense - 1-3 days suspension from riding any school buses. A parent/guardian conference will be required  for a
                      2 or more days suspension.
          nd
         2   Offense  -  5 days suspension from riding any school buses.  A parent/guardian conference will be  required.
          rd
         3   Offense  -  10 days suspension from riding any school buses.  A parent/guardian conference will be required.
          th
         4   Offense  -  Denied the privilege of riding any school buses for the remainder of the school year.



                                         NOTICE TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS
                                    The Kershaw County School District Board of School Trustees has authorized the use of
                                    video cameras on district school buses. Accordingly, the district may use video cameras
                                    on district buses to monitor student behavior in order to provide a safe environment for
                                    students and employees. Students and parents are hereby notified that the content of
                                    the videotapes may be used in a student disciplinary proceeding.  Only those persons
                                    with a legitimate educational purpose may view these videotapes, subject to applicable
                                    federal and state laws and regulations. The district will retain the videotapes with other
                                    student records only if necessary for use in a student disciplinary proceeding or other
                                    matter as determined by administration.  Subject to applicable federal, state and
                                    district laws, policies, and regulations, parents may request to view videotapes of their
                                    child if the district used the videotapes in a disciplinary proceeding involving their son  or
                                    daughter.
