Critical Care
SJHC: The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a special unit that cares for patients who are critically ill. There are approximately 900 patients each year admitted
to the ICU.
SMH: Aims to excel in the care of all critically ill patients. This includes:
• MSICU - provides quaternary level care for critically ill patients. accepts critically ill medical and surgical patients through our emergency department,
from within the hospital, and through the Ontario Criticall system
• TNICU - provides tertiary and quaternary care for patients with traumatic and neurosurgical conditions.
• CICU - provides support, diagnostics and treatment for an adult population with acute primary and secondary cardiac conditions. These include acute
coronary syndromes, acute heart failure, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, cardiac infections, aortic dissection and valvular disease.
• CVICU - provides care for critically ill patients following cardiac and vascular surgeries
• Critical Care Response Team
