Nephrology Summary







       SJHC: Regional Renal Program operates out of two locations and is one of 26 designated Regional Programs in the Greater Toronto Area.
       The program offers a comprehensive range of services for patients at risk of kidney failure or who are in the later stages of kidney disease.
       Our interprofessional team works with patients and their families with the goal of managing their health to delay the need for kidney
       replacement treatment (dialysis or kidney transplant) and to educate them on kidney replacement options if required.
       SMH: The Diabetes Comprehensive Care program manages patients diagnosed with diabetes and who experience complications
       associated with it. The program comprises of 4 service areas which include endocrine, ophthalmology, nephrology, and urology. Within
       these, services offered include endocrinology/diabetes, ophthalmology, the osteoporosis program, renal services, the renal transplant
       program, and urology. In addition to these service areas, the program also oversees research into the prevention of and causes of diabetes
       and its associated complications, risk reductions and treatment of heart attacks, kidney failure, and circulatory problems, as does it conduct
       research into vascular biology, metabolic regulation, risk modification, lipids, complication progression, patient impact and end-stage renal
       disease management. The Diabetes Comprehensive Care program consists of a total of 21 inpatient beds.
