Inpatient (HIG):

• SMH and SJHC have only
inpatient palliative activity
which falls almost entirely
under Palliative Care

• This HIG falls under
multiple services at both

SMH and SJHC

• Patients stay an average
of 13 days at SJHC and
20 days at SMH.

Inpatient (HIG):

• SMH palliative activity is primarily directly
admitted to the palliative service (40%), followed
by the general medicine service (40%) and
oncology service (5% in FY 2016/17 down from

16% in 2014/15)
