Background: Epilepsy is a chronic disease, which the continuous treatment is

necessary. The drugs related problems such as noncompliance or drug

interaction are the major problems, and affect to the control of disease.

Objective: This experimental design study aimed at analyzing the effects of

pharmaceutical care in epileptic patients at Prasat Neurological Institute

towards drug-related problems, medication adherence, patient knowledge

            about epileptic disease and treatment.

Methods:Eighty nine patients with epilepsy, who visited outpatient service

between November 2012 to September 2013, were randomly recruited into

the study. Data were collected by self-administered forms and interview

before and after pharmaceutical care. The subjects were monitored by

            pharmacist twice visits.

Results: After pharmaceutical care, it was found that the number of drug

related problems were significantly decreased at second visits (p<0.001). Mean

scores of medication adherence were significantly higher than those of first

visits (p < 0.01). The subjects also had significantly higher mean scores of

knowledge about epilepsy disease and treatment than those of first visits

            (p<0.001).
