Background: Stroke, a disease of the cerebral blood vessels, is known as
paralysis disease in Thailand and is a major public health problem. Stroke is a
chronic disease with a lengthy development, leading to a paralytic state in
which the patient faces obstacles doing his/her daily routine and needs to
depend upon others. The cause of ischemic stroke are hypertension, diabetic,
hyper cholesterol, atrial fribilation, carotid stenosis alcohol and smoking.
However, the risk factors of small vessel disease (SVD) and large vessel disease
(LVD) might be different.
Objective: To determine the difference of risk of Small Vessel Disease and
Large Vessel Disease.
Method: The retrospective review of the prospective stroke database of the
acute ischemic stroke patient who received treatment in Chiangmai
Neurological Hospital between Jan 2009 to Dec 2013 was performed. TOAST
classification was applied to classify stroke subtypes. SVD and LVD was
included in the study. Demographic data and risk factors were analyzed.
Result: A total of 1,092 ischemic stroke patients were joined but 20 clients
were excluded. SVD group was 579 and LVD group was 493 patients. Advance
in age, myocardial Infarction, atrial fibrillation and female sex were dominant in
