                                        ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VERBS

            Acts 17:28        ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’

            Hebrews 13:8      ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and for ever.’


             God has given us the ability to do, and be, many things.

             Review verbs as doing and being words.


             Review the three tenses of past, present and future verbs.

             Some verbs are active and some are passive.


             Active verbs describe what someone or something does.

             Passive verbs describe what is done to someone or something.


        Way to Work (Means)

           1.  Review the previous lesson.


           2.  Let the children use their rough books to take notes while the past teaching on verbs
                is reviewed.

           3.  Talk about verbs as doing and being words. Remind the children of the three tenses of
                past, present and future. Discuss the use of the ‘being’ verb and its role in helping

                other verbs.

                       E.g.    I will serve you.   They are going home.


           4.  Introduce  active  and  passive  verbs.  Active  verbs  describe  actions  performed  by
                someone or something, whereas passive verbs describe actions done to someone or
                something.


                       E.g.    Julie worked hard.                               Active verb
                              The window was broken by the football.            Passive verb
                              The children were sleeping soundly.               Active verb
                              The book was written by a famous author.          Passive verb
