        Way to Work (Means)

           1. Review previous lessons.

           2. Discuss the story of Jacob and the ladder which formed a bridge between heaven and
                earth.

           3. Explain that connectives and conjunctions are like bridges.

           4. Ask the children to recall words they can use as bridges within sentences, e.g. and,

but, unless, although, though, if, so, because, as, when, then.

           5. Ask them to recall words which can be used in a paragraph to link ideas in or between
sentences, e.g. next, later, suddenly, after that, finally, meanwhile, now, then,
                eventually, firstly, secondly ….

           6. Introduce the words either …or and neither…nor. Give lots of examples.

e.g. Neither Zoe nor Charlotte went to the party.
I saw neither Tom nor Sam.
I am going either to London or to Paris.
We either go here or we go there.

Explain that the neither....nor is negative.

Introduce not only … but also. Give examples.

Introduce as well as. Give examples.
