Science Y1 – Ears to hear - Overview
EARS TO HEAR
Truth to Teach (Source)
The Living God both hears and speaks. Man, made in His image is likewise able to
produce sound and also receive and make sense of it.
1. God has included the dimension of sound in His creation of earth and
heaven.
2. Sounds communicate. They convey:
• God’s power and deity e.g. the thunder, the sea; God’s sensitivity and
gentleness, e.g. birdsong, the wind in the grass;
• Warning e.g. fire, the roar of an animal;
• Spoken messages.
3. Jesus said, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear.’ (Luke 14:35b) To
hear properly we need to attend to sounds. The physical process of
hearing has its spiritual counterpart. We need to concentrate to ‘hear’
what God would say to us.
4. Hearing usually requires a response.
5. Sound is transmitted via sound waves through air, solid materials and water.
6. Our body receives sound through our ears.
7. The shorter the thing that is vibrating, the higher the sound, while the
longer the thing that is vibrating the lower the sound. Adding a sound
box or a bell amplifies the level of sound.
