SOUNDS GIVE A MESSAGE
Truth to Teach (Source)
Luke 14:35b ‘He that has ears to hear, let him hear.’
James 1:22 ‘Do not merely listen to the word...do what it says.’
God’s desire is for sounds to convey a message and to cause us to respond.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review
• When God created the world did He make it a silent world?
• Why did He fill it with sounds? [The Living God ...no one like You...speak
and hear... Maker of all things.]
• What is silence?
• God has helped people to make many inventions, which often make sounds. A
whole variety of sounds. Man-made sounds as opposed to sounds in creation.
2. Listening activity
Sounds tell us all sorts of things. They give us a message. What is the message
which these sounds are giving?
Have two groups, each with a tape of different sounds, e.g. a siren, a baby crying, a
telephone ringing, a spoken message.
3. Gather again
Sounds give a message. They may make you do something, e.g. baby crying – mother
will pick baby up; alarm clock – we get up; a siren – we move out of the way.
4. Activity
Either finish Sounds of creation/Man-made sounds sheet or do the first half of the
worksheet entitled, “Exploring the secrets of sound”.
5. Gather
God’s heart is that we become good at listening – listening to Him and to others
around us.
When He speaks to us, He often speaks in a still small voice.
Read about David – 2 Sam.5:17-25. Draw attention to him listening to God, and
then for the signal of the sounds of marching in the tops of the balsam trees.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear. If you are willing to hear, you will.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
To encourage the children to be more aware of the messages contained in sounds and
to respond appropriately.
