With hesitation, he types another response.

INSERT – ALONZO’S FOLLOW-UP TEXT MESSAGE, reads:

“CALLING YOU NOW. PICK UP.

-- AL.”

Alonzo punches “2” on his smartphone, waits and listens as the smartphone
starts dialing, and pushes the speaker button; then he waits.

A few seconds and at the top of the second ring, “hey, Love,” comes through
the speaker.

After a brief hesitation, “hello, Beautiful.”
