“Okay --"
“-- Pass the gas station. Take another right at the next corner and go all the
way to the end.”
“Got it.”
Later -- about another mile -- Jason calls Alonzo's attention. “Here's fine.
Thank you, and here's a ten for your coming all the way.”
“Thank you, Jason.”
Alonzo pulls to the side, tries to get out and help.
But with a slight struggle, “don't worry, Alonzo. Got it from here.”
“Okay, Jason. Be safe and have a good evening.”
“You too. Thank you.”
Unfamiliar with Cumming, Alonzo decides to head back to Norcross before it
gets too dark. He hates driving at night. Forty-eight minutes later -- and a little traffic
southbound -- he arrives at a convenience store by Winters Chapel and SR 141. After
using the Men’s room, he buys a sandwich wrap and a 16-oz mocha cappuccino, and
a couple of Lottery tickets. He makes his exit, gaits to his vehicle, turns the radio on
to one of his favorite stations, and settles in for dinner.
