TRENDS IN SURGICAL PATHOLOGY

Some 55 consultants and trainees enjoyed excellent presentations from impressive young trainees on a broad range of popular topics, plus a useful update on Ocular Melanoma from a consultant. A surprise presentation on a fatal mycobacterial infection in a pet sh was well received, as were the various presentations on Overseas Training Opportunities. Not only was it an educational evening, it was also a very enjoyable social occasion.
THE INAUGURAL INTRODUCTION TO PROTEOMICS IN PATHOLOGY

Organised by the RCPA and the Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO) the course included seventeen high calibre invited speakers and there was spirited discussion about the implications of Proteomics for the future of medicine. The fty-nine delegates from Pathology services, industry, universities and research institutes across Australia enjoyed an outstanding day which for many was their rst introduction to Proteomics.
FORENSIC INTERIM MEETING: FORENSIC PATHOLOGY AND CLINICAL FORENSIC MEDICINE

Attendees were captivated by the informative updates on clinical practice, interesting cases and issues, the Forensic Radiology Australia and New Zealand session, research updates, anthropology workshop and neuropathology teaching
lecture. Presentations covered sexual assault and the challenges of examining sexual assault patients in a mental health setting. Research ndings were presented on male sexual assault, general body, genital and anal injuries. Custodial medicine talks included compulsory medical treatment of inmates and high-risk pregnancies in correctional facilities. Paediatric and adult clinical presentations included involvement of paediatricians in the medico-legal arena, and epidemiological and clinical aspects of king hits.
REVIEW AND RECENT ADVANCES TOO HARD SLIDE SHOWS WEDNESDAY

Held at RPA on Wednesday evenings, this annual educational program for anatomical pathology Fellows and Trainees was well attended and offered Video Conferencing for trainees outside the Sydney metropolitan area. The Scienti c Program included a series of lectures, workshops, the Too Hard Show seminars and a practice exam. The “Too Hard” Slide Seminars run as part of an ongoing commitment to continuing education. Eleven speakers generously gave their time to this program.
