8 In the next round the Belgian trio beat
                   England 10 - 9 with a last end single,
whilst Wales and Ireland continued on their
           merry way.
In the day’s third and final round England,
Ireland and wales all recorded victories, as they
did on the opening round the next day.
Then came the Ireland v Wales clash, which
turned out to be a one-sided affair with Ireland
winning 21 - 5. This was a chance for England to
keep within shouting distance but the Swedish
           triple had other ideas and went from 2 - 5 down to lead 11 - 5 and finally winning 13 - `10.
England then came under the cosh from Ireland. The match was finely balanced in Irelands
favour at 11 - 10 after seven ends but eight shots over the next four ends gave them a 19 - 11 vic-
tory and England were dead and buried in the tournament. The final round saw England lose
again, with Wales edging them out 11 - 10. It was interesting to see that newcomers Cyprus did
           record a victory by 9 - 8 over Sweden.
Both of the semi-finals were Wales v Ireland matches. The first saw Ireland’s Willie Lennox,
Clarke Hill & Alan Paul comfortably beat Ceri Jones, Dorian Hudson & Jonathan Gladstone 12 -
           4. The other semi-final saw the reverse result with Wales’ Chris, Henry & Mike John beating Ire-
land’s Billy Taaffe, Sean Trainor & Paddy Hanlon by 13 - 10. In the final the two triples were neck
and neck at 5 all after eight ends but the Irish then took charge with a three and a four. This was
followed by an exchange of singles and a 13 - 6 win for Ireland. In the 3rd & 4th place play-off an-
other comfortable win saw Ireland beat Wales 16 - 5.

Smith Dayne Jordan & Mark Wilson swept aside the Isle-of-Man 24 - 0.
The second round saw England bounce back with a win, with Wales and Ireland also winning.
With an uneven number in the group, England sat out the final round of the opening day, in which
Wales and Ireland both won. The second day’s opening round saw England and Wales win whilst
Ireland sat out. In the third round Wales sat out with Ireland and England winning, so the points
were still close with England just behind Wales and Ireland.
However, in the last round of the day England were undone losing 13 - 7 to Ireland and were
then firmly on the back foot. In a surprise result the Welsh four also lost 11 - 4 to Scotland’s Rob
McNeil, Kevin Murray, Zoe Haining & Anne Motroni. The final round of the event was on the morn-
ing of the third day and England needed Ireland to beat Wales and also win themselves by a big
