                                                 ARMAGH ZONE

Also doing well, Jean Dennington & Gillian Weston held off a fightbackby Greta Garvey & Irene
Doone to win 9 - 7 and in the Triples Yvonne Tolley, Jan Hedges & Rose Haynes held off the
strong Irish triple of Rosemary Beattie, Noreen Gilkinson & May Cassells to win 10 - 9 in a very
tight match. Thus the session finished 10 - 6 on points to Armagh and by 84 shots to 70.
The second session of morning play consisted of six rinks, with 6 points available for the
overall shots winners across the six rinks. England’s best result came from Jean Woods, Lesley
             Fennell, Debbie Phillips & Jeanette Gayler who won 13 - 5. This was countered by a 16 - 6
result from Sophia Minish, Rosemary Beattie, Jean Hawthorne & Flo McNally, who won 16 - 6.
Another good result by England’s Yvonne Tolley, Jan Hedges, Kim Bridge & Brenda Jones who
won 13 - 5, helped put them on the road to victory.
England won the other two rinks and drew one. Nora Martin, Pam Fayers, Isobel Wardley
& Becci Cox won 9 - 5 whilst Sylvia Kendall, Pat Beardley, Rachel Pedley & Rose Haynes won
9 - 6. The draw saw Kath Hoole, Jean Dennington, Hazel Berry & Gillian Weston leading 9 - 6
going into the last end but Sheelagh Garvey, Elizabeth Lavery, Lesley Strain & Elizabeth Smyth
stuck with a three to draw the game. The result was a great 59 - 45 England victory.
After lunch the third session of the day was again as the first, three pair’s three triples and
two fours. England lost all three pairs, as Armagh’s Agnes Crozier & Elizabeth Smyth romped
home 14 - 6 and Linda Milligan & Pauline Beattie won 18 - 13 in a high scoring match. At one
stage the England pair of Kath Heale & Kim Bridge were 16 - 4 down to Linda & Pauline but
clawed their way back in for a respectable score. Armagh’s Ann Crozier & Flo McNally went
into the last end 12 shots across against Jean Dennington & Gillian Weston but it was the Irish
             pair who scored a vital single for a 13 - 12 win.
In the Triples Sheelagh Garvey, Sadie White & Irene Doone were 9 - 8 down with two ends
to play but last end two two’s sealer their 12 - 9 victory. England took the two remaining Triples
as Linda Wynn, Becci & Shirley Cox went from 9 - 7 to 14 - 7 with two threes over the last two
ends. Sylvia Kendall, Lorraine Axtell & Hazel Berry went into the last end at 9 shots all to Dianne
Bell, Rosemary Beattie & Lesley Strain but two sealed an England victory at 11 - 9. In the Fours
England went down to defeat in both games.
England’s Nora Martin, Pam Fayers, Brenda Jones & Celia Jeans were 8 all with Armagh’s
Marlene Hobson, Heather Wilson & Diane Agnew but it was the Armagh four that snatched a
single for a 9 - 8 victory, I was slightly more clear cut in the other four as Armagh’s Margaret
Dempster, Elizabeth Lavery, Hilary Agnew & Rachel Cassells fought back from 5 - 6 with a three
             and a single for a 9 - 6 win.
