The finals session of the first day was 6 rinks with a point per game and 6 points for the overall
shots winner. Armagh won this session although they didn’t have it all their way. Doing the shots
damage, Agnes Crozier, Greta Garvey, Lesley Strain & Elizabeth Smyth stormed home 21 - 3
for an18 shot advantage. For England, Jean Woods, Lesley Fennell, Debbie Phillips & Jeanette
Gayler scored a single on the last end for a 5 all draw and half a point against Sheelagh Garvey,
Sandra Whittle, Rosemary Beattie & Irene Doone.
Sophia Minish, Elizabeth Lavery, Rachel Cassells & Catherine McMillen who went 0 - 7
down against their English opponents but scored 10 shots over the next four ends, dropped a
single and finished off with a three and a 13 - 8 victory. The other three games were won by
England, Shirley Cox, Linda Wynn, Pauline Freeman & Cecilia Jones 11 - 6, Sylvia Kendall,
Pat Beardsley, Rachel Pedley & Rose Haynes 10 - 6, and finally, Yvonne Tolley, Jan Hedges,
Kim Bridge & Brenda Jones 10 - 9. 8.5 points went to Armagh and 3.5 points to England. Thus
after the first days play Armagh led by 8 points and 36 shots.
The second day things started well for the England Ladies select but not in every game.
Two of the three pairs were lost as first Ann Crozier & Hilary Agnew won 17 - 3 for Armagh,
along with a last end two to give Marlene Hobson & Diane Agnew a 13 - 12. Some balance was
restored for England as Lesley Fennell & Jeanette Gayler scored a last end for a 15 - 7 win.
The Armagh triple of Michelle Wright, Jean Hawthorne & Flo McNally recorded a stunning 26 -
victory but England did take a triple with Linda Wynn, Pauline Freeman & Becci Cox winning 11
             - 8.
Not enough to make up for the other triples deficit but a good win and two valuable points.
Following on from this Jean Woods, Pat Beardsley & Kim Bridge recorded another two pints for
England with an 11 - 9 victory. After this the fours were last to finish in the session and both
matches were taken by England. Nora Martin, Pam Fayers, Brenda Jones & Celia Jeans won
11 -7 and Shirley Cox, Isobel Wardley, Rachel Pedley & Debbie Phillips went one shot better
with a 13 - 8 scoreline. Overall this cut the England deficit to 4 points but the one big loss in the
triples was costly as another five shots were added to Armagh’s advantage.
The second session of the morning consisted of the 6 rinks session. Armagh once again
came out on top. Their best win came from Agnes Crozier, Heather Wilson, Jean Hawthorne &
Elizabeth Smyth, who scored well and consistently for a 13 - 5 result. Much tighter were both
last end finishes giving Armagh two more victories. England’s Sylvia Kendall, Pat Beardsley,
Rachel Pedley & Rose Haynes went into their last end 7 - 6 up but Margaret Dempster, Marlene
Hobson, May Cassells & Irene Doone took a three for a 10 - 7 victory.
