Leigh started with a toucher and with his second bowl gambled by putting the jack in the 7
ditch with his own bowl being removed from the dead area (rule 37). The McHugh’s were
then left in an almost impossible position and Colum's attempt to draw shot just failed send-
ing the title to the North West’s Harrison & O’Neill.
STUBBS BROTHERS TAKE THE TRIPLES
The National Triples brought together the
highly experienced Stubbs brothers, Ronald,
Gordon, and Raymond, of Ballinderry (Lisburn
Zone), and the experienced Monaghan triple,
skipped by A international, Gerry Moen, with
John Sloan and Daniel Wilson (Clontibrett),
with neither of the triples having won this title
before.
The Lisburn triple were favourites to win
but it was an opportunity to bring a rare title to
Monaghan. However, It was the Stubb's triple
who dominated early exchanges and by the 7th end they had established an 8 - 1 lead and looked
well on their way to a clear win.
Moen picked up a 3 on the 8th end to narrow the gap but the lead was extended over the
next few ends to 11 - 5. The Monaghan triple picked up 3 shots and were still in with a chance on
the last end needing 4 for a tie but the head never favoured them and the title made its way to Lis-
burn to add to the Stubb's rinks win in 2005.
MID ULSTER QUARTET WINS THE FOURS TITLE
In the National Fours final it was a West-
ern v Mid Ulster clash in the rinks with
Alan Graham, Ivor Armstrong, Jonny
Beadon and Paul Noble (Wellington) fac-
ing Mark Wilson, Dwayne Jordan, Glen
Smith and Colin Hogg (Cookstown High).
Mark Wilson had an exceptional
year at inter zone level and winning a na-
tional outdoor title and this was his first
chance of helping to bring home a rinks
title to Mid Ulster since 2002. Graham
was hoping to claim Western's for the first
time since 2003. The first 6 ends were evenly contested with Wilson leading 6 - 4 after 6 ends.
From that point the Mid Ulster rinks moved away picking up a 4 on the 7th end and 2 on the 8th.
In the end it was a comfortable win 14 - 4.
LYNN HAMILTON WINS AGAIN
Lynn Hamilton claimed her second ladies title, hav-
ing previously won in 2004. The Foyle lady played
North Down's Elaine Hastings in a game which saw
the lead change several times. After 6 ends the
ladies were tied at 4 - 4.
Elaine went into a 2 shot lead but was over-
taken by the 9th end to be 6 - 7 down. On the next
end Elaine squared the game but on the 11th end
she dropped a 4 to leave Lynn 11 - 7 up. In the 12th
end the North Down player reduced the deficit to 2
but 4 shots over the last 2 ends say the title go back to Foyle with a 15 - 9 win.
