thought and out played Fatty- 5
Thinny-Skinny (another West Mid-
lands based team) 11-0. The Three Cs
annihilated North End ‘A’ 17-1, Ashing-
ton got much the better of Two Lasses
& A Lad 11-2, whilst Gloster Knights put
out the remaining North End team 12-3.
The other first round knockout games
were quite close.
In the next round, Gloster Knights
kept their winning streak going by bet-
tering Ashington from West Sussex 11-
3. North End ‘C’ had a closer game
Meon Valley
Meon Valley than they would have liked but con-
cluded by beating their opponents Just
for Fun by the narrowest of margins 6-
5. Smiffs of Cawrse brushed the Three Cs aside 13-3, but the thrilling match on Mat 2 found
The Baggies needing an extra end to progress against Dorset Knobs 8-7.
North End ‘C’ were in full charge when they contested their semi final match against The
Baggies (Tracey, Steve & Nathan Bailey) and ran out comfortable 9-2 winners. Gloster Knights
needed an extra end in their match against Smiffs of Cawrse (Maggie & James Smith with Gill
Cawrse all from Devon) to progress to the final.
On the face of it the final itself was a very one-sided affair, but North End ‘C’ (Faye, Lor-
raine & Andrew Shorney) didn’t capitulate against the Gloster Knights, and regularly held shots.
However the Gloucestershire team (Stephen Holdsworth, Jack & Ryan Knight) were just more
accurate when it counted, and didn’t allow the Hampshire side the consolation of even one
shot in a 13-0 scoreline.
The Plate competition was played over five ends and was a bit of a sudden death affair.
In an all Pirrie Park match, Allen & His Two LLves (Allen & Ryan Young and John Bambrough)
lost out to the Morello Boys (George, Ben & Martin Cherry) 1-9 but most of the other games
were closer, some with only 5 shots being scored overall. Morello Boys however went out of
the competition at the semi final stage when they came up against the organiser’s team, Keep
Calm & Run The Jack (Paul & Callum Goodman and Jason McLean) 8-6. Over five ends this
had been a high scoring match and well fought.
So the finalists for the plate - Meon Valley ‘A’ (Antony Thornly, Adrian Booth & Chris Brett)
and Keep Calm & Run The Jack - took to the stage and it became very clear, very quickly that
Meon Valley were on the back foot against
Jason’s team.
Although they scored a single shot
on the first end, they were destined to
score no more and finished on the wrong
end of a 10-1 final score.
All the four finalists donated their
prize money to the Charity fund, and Jason
believes he has raised at least £1400 for
this cause. Jason would like to thank Ban-
ister Park for their special help in the host-
ing of this event this year.
