Bowls County Triples
24 teams compete at Barton le Clay and were split
into 4 groups with the winners going into the Semi-fi-
nals. In Group A, after 4 games each Toddington (D.
Whitfield) were unbeaten but needed a win to
progress as Clophill (George Savage), finished on 8
points but they managed to progress with 10 points.
In Group “B” Maulden (J Greaves) saw 5 wins take
them through with the others all losing 2 games. In Group “C”, Toddington (A. Denton) had 8
points and a narrow final win saw them pip the Turvey (K. Cockings) triple to take the group un-
defeated. In Group “D”, Barton (N. Rixon) led all the way with 10 points after beating Ravensden
(D. Dewey), who finished on 8 points
At the Semi Final stages. Toddington (D Whitfield) v Maulden (J Greaves). Maulden had a
2-0 lead after 2 ends but 3 shots to Toddington saw them jump ahead 3-2. Maulden then struck
back with a decisive 5 shots to lead 7-3. Toddington were not able to recover and Maulden even-
tually won 8-3
Another Toddington team led by Ann Denton
faced Neil Rixon’s Barton’s team. Todding-
ton were away from the start and after five
ends had a 5-0 lead but a 3 on the 6th end
saw Barton back in with a chance on the
final end but Toddington were not having
any of it and 2 shots gave them a 7-3 win
In the Final, Maulden’s Janet Webbley,
Peter Crump and Jim Greaves faced Tod-
dington’s Kate Tilcock, Cherry Brock and
Ann Denton. On the first end Maulden are in
close with the first wood it’s not beaten and

they lead 1-0. On end two Toddington held
two shots only for the Maulden skip to remove them and take shot for a 2-0 lead. On end three
Toddington struck back with a two to level the
match.
Toddington took another shot on the next
end to lead 3-2. However, on the next end Tod-
dington fell with bowls spread around and
Maulden capitalise by taking 5 shots and 7-3 lead.
On the penultimate end Toddington needed to
score to realistically stay in the match but a single
Maulden lead 8 -3 gave then a five-shot lead.
Miracles seldom happen and Maulden
closed out the final with two shots for a 10-3 vic-
tory. Congratulations to both teams a great final

Bedfordshire County Fours
The fours took place at Barton le Clay with 20 teams put into groups of 5 with the winner and
runners-up to progress to the knock out stages. In Group “A”, defending champions Barton (Neil
Rixon) played 2 won 2 the group looked to be theirs but a loss to Colmworth/Cotton End (P Ball)
saw them finish runners up to the undefeated rink from Colmworth/Cotton End. In Group “B”,
the Turvey (A Hatton) rink were also undefeated leaving a fight for runner-up spot where a draw
in their last game saw Barton (C Still) sneak into the knockout’s.
