4 CERNE ABBAS MAKE
CERNE ABBAS MAKE
A CLEAN SWEEP
A CLEAN SWEEP
The Terry Trott fours competition was
held at Cloakham in Axminster. The for-
mat is somewhat unusual as the event
is played in Pairs and starts on a round
robin basis. The two pairs results are
added together and those who amass
the most number of points win the Terry
Trott Fours but there is also a pairs
knockout round leading up to a final so
the points add up during the day. The
Cerne Abbas Winners in front with the pair’s event is for the Jack Guscott Tro-
“Gruesome Twosome” on the left and phy.
At the quarter finals stage two
the Pairs Runners-up Beer “The SAS” clubs still had two pairs in the event;
at the back. Musbury had the “Trotters Independent
Trading” and the “Porn Bears”, whilst Birchfield had “The Two Hawaiians” and “The two more
Hawaiians”. Many Pairs were suitably dressed to match their names in what was a fun event
where the bowling was still serious.
In the event the Musbury and Birchfield pairs were eliminated, although the Musbury
“Trotters Independent Traders” only lost on the last end. At the semi-final stage Upottery “City
Farmers” played Beer “The SAS”. The match swung either way until both pairs were level at
7 all going into the last end, with the Beer team taking a single to progress to the final. The
other semi was equally hard fought with Cerne Abbas “Gruesome Twosome” facing the West
Hill “Caribbean’s”. With two ends to go the match was even Steven at 5 shots each but two
successive single gave the “Gruesome Twosome” a 7 - 5 victory.
In the final the Beer SAS opened with a two but three ends later they were 5 - 2 down
to the Gruesome Twosome. Beer struck back with successive two’s to lead 6- 5 but not to be
outdone the Gruesome twosome struck back with two two’s of their own to win the event 9 -
6. The victory also ensured that Cerne Abbas also won the fours as the other Cerne Abbas
team had amassed enough points to ensure they also took the fours by a narrow point’s mar-
gin, making it a clean sweep in both events.

Both the mats and the opponents made it a very
tough day indeed at Clyst St. Mary in the annual
Nomads Charity event. Indeed, three of the four
semi-finalists lost a game on the way to the semis.
In Group “A” Winkleigh were holding their
own at 7 across with Sidbury but then dropped a
fours and a single to lose 12 - 7. They bounced
back in their next game with a 16 - 2 result over
South Brent and followed this up with an 11 - 5 win
over Staplegrove.
Their eventual opponents in the semi-final Wonfrd Winners seated
were Ottery St. Mary from Group “A”, who opened
up with a 9 - 7 win over Gnomeless. with the shield and
