They then beat another South Brent triple 9- 3 but came unstuck in their last round robin 5
game against Colyton, who scored a last end single to win 10 - 9.
In Group “C”, Wonford B started with a 10 - 5 win but in their next game they found
themselves two shots behind going into the last end but scored a two to snatch a draw at 7
all. In their final game they managed a comfortable 10 - 6 win after being behind 2 - 6 at one
stage. The second Wonford team, Wonford “A” started with a 9 - 5 result over Broadclyst com-
ing from 5 all. Against Woodley they led all the way, restricting their opponents to singles and
they won 8 - 4. In their third and final game they were on top form against the Motley Crew
              and stormed home 17 - 2.
As luck would have it, the two Wonford teams met in the semi-finals and a tough game
ensued. Wonford B led 5 - 0 after three ends but by the sixth the “A” team were in front 6 - 5.
An exchange of two’s meant that the A team went into the last end leading 8 - 7 but not to be
outdone Wonford B scored a three for a 10 - 8 victory. In the other semi-final Winkleigh found
              a rich vein of form and finished off 1 - 2 - 3 for a 10 - 3 victory.
The final was a really tough match with singles on every end but one. Winkleigh were
laying game on the last end but a cracking shot from the Wonford skip winkled the jack out
and at one stage it looked as though they were holding a winning two shots but a measure
made it a single and a sudden death extra end, which was won by Wonford B who scored the
vital single they needed for victory.

Winkleigh, Shebbear Holsworthy and Westward Ho! The evening was run as a round robin
with two sets of three teams with the final being between the two group winners.
Emerging triumphant for the final match were Winkleigh’s Jan Ovenden, Lorraine Axtell and
Bill Brook and Hartland’s Len Beck, Nancy Johns and Eric Heard. After some very skilled play,
Winkleigh were the eventual winners. Many congratulations to them.
We would like to thank all the teams who took part in this friendly tournament and hope
they enjoyed their matches. Special thanks, too, must go to those clubs (Fremington,
Goodleigh, Hartland, Holsworthy and Westward Ho!) who generously offered their time, ven-
ues and equipment for the first round. With their help, we were able to raise £351 for North
              Devon Hospice.
