Bowling Championships
The Championships were staged in
Strömstad in Sweden, only the second
time they have been outside the UK.
They are held every two years in a three
day event and each country is allowed up
to twenty players, 2 Singles, 2 Pairs, 2
Triples and 2 Fours, all played in two groups per
discipline. The more developed countries fielded a full 20
players but others fielded just representative players. The following “A” and “B” does not represent
first and second teams, just the two different sections in each discipline
Full teams came from Belgium, Canada, England, Ire-
land, Norway, Sweden and Wales, with representatives
from Germany, India, Italy and the Netherlands. So 11
countries were represented at the Championships this
time but Scotland did not field a team for the first time.
It has already been decided that the next event will be
in Belgium in two years time.
The usual favourites are Ireland, England and Wales
and no World Title has ever gone outside the UK but
the seismic shocks of the opening singles round indi-
cated that change was afoot with the rest of the World..
