120 bowlers from around England and
Wales competed at Lakeside in four events,
the opening evening saw a “get to know you”
bowls drive. All the players are in drawn
teams and it is usually a fun but competitive
evening, with the winning four having a shots
plus of 17.
Whilst the Pairs had started in the af-
ternoon, the first event to be completed on
Wednesday evening was the after dinner
“self-inflicted wound competition”, a 2 bowl
Singles for the very keen.
At the quarter final stage Dennis Peer-

In his semi-final, Dave was pushed all the way
by Michael Leale and needed a last end single to win
7 - 6. Dennis Peerless needed a two on the last end
for the same scoreline over Graham Keeley in two
cracking semi-finals.
In the final Dave Baker started off like a rocket
and raced into a 7 - 0 lead after four ends but Dennis
Peerless struck back with five shots over the next four
ends but it was not enough as Dave took the Singles
title 10 - 5.

Wednesday afternoon saw the Pairs event down Finalist Dennis Peerless
and winner Dave Baker
through the last and winner Dave Baker
16 on to the quarter finals, Where Dave Baker was once
again in the action with playing partner John Horsham.
An 8 - 2 victory over Pauline & Jim Carlow saw them
through to the next round. In the end all the quarter final
matches ended in very comfortable wins.
John Allen & Barbara Schultze beat Jeanette
Richards & Rodney Kendrick 10 - 3; Nicola Prior &
Michael Leale beat John & Jeanette Donelan 10 - 2 with
ends unplayed, as did Tony Drew & Ken Prince 12 - 1
over Cliff Curtis & Robert Adams.
In the semi-finals it was turn of Tony & Ken to come
under the cosh as Dave Baker & John Horsham cruised
home 13 - 3 with two ends unplayed.
The other semi-final was a much tighter affair with
John Allen & Barbara Schultze, Nicola Prior & Michael
