             The Island SMBC held their annual Open Day competition at the sports hall in Cornelius Ver-
             muyden School, Canvey Island. The prime organisers were Alan Jones, Sheila and Roger
             Booker and Eileen and John Bellett. Various other club members helped out on the day with the
             raffle, Tombola etc. There were four groups of five teams playing eight timed ends, nine for the
             final. The scoring was 2 points for a win and 1 point per end won, so winning each end was very
             important to rattle up points.
                   In Group A, Stonyhill won this first group by beating East Tilbury A , Ramsden Bellhouse
             B, Stonyhill B and Hatfield Peverel.  East Tilbury A were Runners-up having beaten Hatfield
             Peverel and Ramsden Bellhouse B. Stonyhill B and Hatfield Peverel were joint third having
             beaten Tilbury A and Stonyhill B respectively, with Ramsden Bellhouse B bringing up the rear
             on shot difference but having beaten Hatfield Peverel.
                   In Group B, Outwood Common A emerged as winners, beating Willow Park B, Friends of
             Essex and Outwood Common B. Willow Park B were Runners-up having beaten East Tilbury
             B, Friends of Essex and Outwood Common B.
                                                                           Friends of Essex came third by beat-
                                                                     ing Outwood Common B and east Tilbury
                                                                     B. Only one shot separated East Tilbury
                                                                     and Outwood Common B for fourth and
                                                                     fifth place.
                                                                           In Group C, Wickford beat everyone
                                                                     in  their  group,  namely  Ramsden  Bell-
                                                                     house A, Hollingbourne, Gulls A and Can-
                                                                     vey Island. Ramsden Bellhouse A were
                                                                     runners-up  in  the  group  having  beaten
                                                                     Canvey Island and Gulls A. Hollingbourne
                                                                     were third having beaten Canvey Island
                                                                     and Ramsden Bellhouse.
