CNM: Most of us are always eager to know what
is the “latest” color, design and furnishings trend.
Can you tell us how homeowners might create in-
        teriors that up-to-date but classic.

Jose: Personally, design is in the details and these
sophisticated new homeowners seem to know that. I
see quality as a trend because it never goes out of
style. Be safe with the big purchase and play with
the accessories. (Silk, beaded throws pillow, that sisal
tapestry bordered small throw rug etc…) Accents are
        great, don’t go overboard.

CNM: What are some of the common decorating
        mistakes made by homeowners?
And what is your advice on how to avoid them?
What would you recommend first in a decorating
        project?

Jose: First, you have to explore all the possibilities. I
think people make decorating decisions too quickly.
If you take the time to do it right, the end result will
be much better. I also think many people try to copy
what’s trendy rather than trusting their own personal
style in decorating a home and then the look doesn’t
last. I would recommend first to follow the archi-
tectural style of the space. Create your own canvas.
Choose a theme and paint colors, then make deci-
sions on your furniture and keep in mind the larger
pieces. Aim for personal comfort as well as visual ap-
        peal level. CNM | CARIBBEANNETWORKMAGAZINE.COM 25
