The artillery weren’t the only ones to
have their own special knots. Although
it’s often said that nine-tenths of knots
were devised by sailors, many carry the
hallmark of other trades, such as the cow
hitch (page 49) for farmers, the honda
knot (page 120) for cowboys, the
bell-ringer’s knot (page 189) for
bell-ringers, and the hangman’s noose
(p138) for the hangman.
