1.1.4 What is the alignment between the content, the work schedule and
assessment plans?
The content is all the knowledge which the learners have to know for example the grade
12 mathematics content would include all the topics which they have to know from
Functions to trigonometry meanwhile the assessment plan includes all the assessments
which learners are required to complete at the end of the year included the day the
assessments were completed and also how the teacher plans to assess the learners
either through test, project or an investigation. The work schedule comprises of both the
assessment plan and the assessment but briefly. It clearly outlines what ought to be
taught throughout the year and also includes assessment plan and date times and also
when each topic will be started and completed.
1.1.5 How could the planning in the CAPS for Grade 12 be done differently?
The content covered in matric should build a foundation for the learners as a form of
preparation for university. All the topics that they feel learners will not need should be
covered in the other grades just so learners could be properly prepared for the future,
secondly more time should be awarded for the examination revision, because this is the
only opportunity that learners have and if there is a negative outcome this could potentially
be the end point for many learners and lastly teachers should not be given a fixed pace
setter but rather teachers should be awarded the opportunity to plan their work schedule
however they want especially in matric as long as the teachers complete the syllabus.
1.1.6 In your opinion, would you say it is important to keep a work schedule?
Why?
Yes it is, a work schedule awards a teacher the opportunity to really see what should be
done when and also how long it would take. It also helps teachers to plan their year
properly because by looking at a work schedule one can always alter the focus of the
different however they want them to be. For instances instead of spending 3 weeks doing
functions only, another teacher could decide to do two weeks of functions then 2 weeks
of exponential and logarithmic graphs depending on the strength and weaknesses of their
learners so yeas I believe work schedule is important.
1.1.7) In your own opinion would you say it is important to keep record of work?
Why?
Yes it is important, because keeping a record of work does not only help the teacher when
the department is there to look at the work but it also helps the teacher to determine the
general performance of the learners. For instance a teacher can compare learners’ first
term work with second terms work and analyze if there has been any improvement on the
learners part. Secondly the teacher can always use the work of the learners to improve
their own teaching so yes I think it is important for a teacher to keep a record of the
learners work.
