II. What are different types of Advisors?
Generic Advisor Academic Advisor Peer Advisor

III. How do I become an Advisor?
1. Generic Advisor
- Faculty could apply to the Advising Program, then Dean/ Vice Dean shall determine which Faculty
members will serve as Generic Advisors, and propose to SAM.
- Each Generic Advisor will be responsible for one group of freshmen.
2. Academic Advisor
- Faculty could apply to the Advising Program, then Dean/ Vice Dean shall determine which Faculty
members will serve as Academic Advisors.
- Students will be assigned an Academic Advisor from the students’ College.
3. Peer Advisor:
- Applicants to become Peer Advisors must be in good academic standing with the minimum GPA of
2.5 in the previous academic year
- Applicants should be friendly, sympathetic, and enthusiastic in promoting healthy campus life at
VinUni
- SAM will consider the applications, and then jointly interview applicants with the participation of
the VinUni Student Council. Peer Advisors will be paired with students from the same college
- Each Peer Advisor will be responsible for one group of such students
IV. What should I do as an Advisor?
1. Generic Advisor
- Each Generic Advisor is expected to reserve a minimum of 10 contact hours per academic year to meet
their advisees
- Generic Advisors advise first-year students on generic aspects of the university journey, as well as their
professional and personal development
- Review, comment on students’ IDP
- Proposed meeting schedule for Generic Advisor and Advisees are as followed:
• 1 introductory group meeting (during Orientation) to introduce and provide IDP instruction (to be
facilitated by SAM)
• 1 compulsory individual or group meeting within the first month of the Academic year to discuss
about the IDP and start planning for the year
• 1 compulsory individual or group meeting at the end of each Semester to check on students’ progress
and IDP
• Other optional meetings as needed
- If any notable issues arise from the advisory sessions, the Advisor will send an email to notify Student
Affairs Management (studentaffairs@vinuni.edu.vn)
