V. “DO NOTs” for Generic and Academic Advisors:
- Help students with financial issues. Students in need of such assistance are referred to other
resources, such as Finance Department or Student Affairs Management
- Tutor or help students with their assignments or coursework. Advisors may help students identify
students’ need for tutoring or study skills, but they should not be expected to provide students with such
help. Students in need of such assistance are generally referred to other resources, such as the Peer-to-
Peer Program
- Search for Part-time jobs/Internships for students. While students are encouraged to discuss their career
goals with their advisors, it is not the advisors’ responsibilities to provide students with assistance in
employment search
- Help students with confidential, private and mental wellbeing issues. If students experience any of these
issues, they should meet the Student Counsellor
- Advise students on violation of VinUniversity’s code of conduct
VI. What should I do as an Advisee?
- Proactively schedule advising sessions with the Advisor during the semester when students need advice
and guidance
- Come to the advisory session well-prepared and bring appropriate resources or materials
- Students should review and complete their IDP every 6 months. Although the IDP is not a formal
assessment that requires grading from the Generic/ Academic Advisors, students are required to upload
their IDPs to Canvas. Students should upload the IDP after they have consulted with their Generic/
Faculty Advisors. Failure to submit the IDP on time can affect the students’ final result in OASIS course
