Bubble tea is often
consumed using wide,
plastic straws to create
more space for the
tapioca pearls to flow
into your mouth. Some
straws are actually
designed with a sharp tip
at the end to pierce
through the plastic that
stores use to seal the top
of the drink with.
Bubble tea was invented in
Taichung, Taiwan in the
1980s, according to the
Daily Meal. The drink
became more popular,
spreading to East and
Southeast Asia in the 1990s
and eventually making its
way over to North America.
Today, there are huge
international bubble tea
stores, such as ChaTime,
with over 1000 stores
worldwide, and CoCo Fresh,
a large store with
expansions into South
Africa, Asia and America.
