foods. That moment can turn into a day, two days, a week, and then before you know it, you've fallen
off the wagon for so long, it's hard to envision ever getting back on it.
Why not give this a try instead: If, not when, but IF you find yourself giving in to that urge
for salty or sugary foods or any food unhealthy for that matter, why not follow it up with some water
and a HEALTHIER food, perhaps something filled with fiber like an apple. Doing this could help in
two ways: first, it can BREAK and/or prevent the cycle of thought that goes, "Well if I'm going to
begin to eat horribly now, I might as well continue to eat horribly for the rest of the day.”
Secondly, drinking water and choosing something fibrous to eat can make you feel full while
facilitating the movement of waste from your body, including, you guessed it, that bad food you just
ate. One of the things I did was always keep an apple with me. I thought of it as an emergency pulley
of a train encased in a glass box that you break, pull, and stop the train. The apple was like my pully
when the urge for sweets came over me, and it would stop me from eating the very unhealthy thing I
craved, or at the very least, eating more of it.
It's all about training your mind to think differently about food. What we eat can alter genetic
information within us and can change not just our own DNA, but the DNA of our children and even
our grandchildren, based on the reservoir of nutrients or lack thereof from the foods we eat. We can
facilitate the predispositions of various diseases and chronic ailments in our children and
grandchildren simply by what we put in our bodies. Know that there are long term consequences to
giving in to that moment of choosing to eat unhealthily.
