STEVE MARTONE
Assistant General Manager
Steve Martone (mar-TONE), 38, came to the Angels in 2016 following nine
years in baseball operations with the New York Yankees, including the 2009
World Championship campaign. From 2014-15, he served as Yankees Manager
of Professional Scouting.
Originally hired by New York in April of 2006 as a baseball operations intern,
Martone was promoted to Assistant of Baseball Operations in December that front office
same year. In that capacity, he focused on player tracking & data collection, research for arbitration
& grievances as well as technology initiatives. In March of 2014, Martone was promoted to Manager,
Professional Scouting where he dealt with 40-man roster composition, departmental budget, MLB
depth charts and targeting of players.
The Houston, TX native graduated from the University of Houston in 2005. Martone and wife,
Laura, have three children.
JONATHAN STRANGIO
Assistant General Manager
Jonathan Strangio, 30, enters his eighth year with the Angels in 2019, fourth
as Assistant General Manager. Following the 2014 season, Strangio moved
up to Manager, Major League Operations where his responsibilities included
40-man roster construction, rules and CBA compliance, baseball analytics,
salary arbitration, and contract negotiation. He joined the Club as a baseball
operations intern in 2012 before a promotion to Coordinator, Baseball
Operations after the 2012 campaign.
A native of Long Island, NY, Strangio graduated from Harvard University in 2010 where he was a
four-year varsity pitcher on the Crimson’s baseball team. Upon graduation, he was hired by the New
York Mets as a baseball operations intern. Strangio and wife, Alexandra, reside in Los Angeles, CA.
ANDREW BALL
Director, Baseball Operations
Andrew Ball, 30, enters his third season with the Angels in 2019 as Director
of Baseball Operations. In his role, Ball is involved in all areas of baseball
operations with a focus on Major League roster management, player contracts,
player procurement, and salary arbitration.
Ball came to the Angels after three seasons in the Baseball Operations
Department of the Tampa Bay Rays. Initially hired as an advance scouting
intern, he was promoted to Baseball Operations Assistant in October of 2014 and to Assistant Director,
Pro Scouting in September of 2016. Prior to that, Ball got his start in baseball operations with the York
Revolution, an independent team in the Atlantic League. During his tenure, York captured the 2011
Atlantic League Championship and saw 14 players signed by affiliated organizations.
A native of Orwigsburg, PA, Ball attended Gwynedd-Mercy College where he graduated with a
business degree and pitched for the Griffins’ baseball team. He currently resides in Newport Beach.
