The heat alone, from Fires can kill you. The smoke is deadly and
flames move very quickly. Although fires can start small, they often
engulf a single family home within 60 seconds.
Fire Prevention —
• Staff and individuals supported are trained on Fire Safety and
Evacuation through monthly Fire Drills.
• Staff assess and report hazards that may contribute to starting a
fire.
In the event of a small containable fire, do the
Protocols • Try to Remain Calm!
following:

Most extinguishers work in the following manner:
PULL ... Pull the pin.
AIM ... Aim low, pointing the extinguisher nozzle at
the base of the fire.
SQUEEZE ... Squeeze the handle. This releases the
extinguishing agent.
SWEEP ... Sweep from side to side at the base of the
fire, until it appears to be out.
• Assess the area and individuals and report the incident.
In the event of a large fire or a small fire getting
out of control, do the following:
• Evacuate as quickly as possible and call 911.
• Assess individual’s well being and report according to proto-
col.
