Gas Leak/Odor
Title
At least 1 Carbon Monoxide Detector is installed and working
properly at each EPIC home. The detectors are inspected annually.
If gas odor alerts the carbon monoxide monitor or if
staff/individuals detect the odor of gas, it is imperative not to light a
match, use a candle, or turn lights off or on.
If you smell gas:
• Immediately evacuate all persons from the home/work site
(Leave the doors open)
• Do not start a vehicle in the garage or near the home/work
Protocols • Get as far as possible from the home/work site until the prop-
site
er authorities arrive to assess the situation.
•
If a vehicle is in a safe area, away from either the home/work
site, then staff should utilize the vehicle to move themselves
and individuals (if applicable) to an authorized safe location.
• Upon getting to a safe area, immediately contact 911 and/or
the gas company. (Follow internal reporting protocols)
Site Re-Entry:
• No one is to re-enter an EPIC site until the authorized personal
gives notice that it is safe to do so.
• Once it has been determined that the scene is safe for re-entry,
staff will begin returning to the home/work site and assist
individuals with doing the same.
• Report your condition to your Immediate Supervisor.
